| This was the first positive television news coverage on a nationwide basis during the S&L crisis. The World Monitor producer desired to do the piece after having read the NY times article by Leslie Wayne. It was broadcast on National Public Radio as audio only. Totally unexpected, within two weeks nearly 2 million dollars in deposits were received by people from all over the country. It also led to a request from the Chairman of the US Senate Banking Committee to testify on reform legislation the committee was considering. |
